My husband and I got a new couch delivered last week!!

Why is this important enough to dedicate an entire post to?

Because, just a few years ago, we never thought we’d be in the financial position to be buying brand new furniture!

Yes, that’s right. I’ve been where you might be sitting today. Feeling like you are drowning in debt, never going to get ahead and like your finances are a general crapshoot. I get it. It sucks. But we made the decision that debt was not going to define us and we were going to make changes to get out of that situation.

So we worked hard, took on extra jobs, watched our budget closely, made extra $5 and $10 debt payments and have finally gotten ourselves to a place where new furniture is something we are finally able to experience! (Neither of us have ever bought brand new furniture!!)

In fact, as we were walking out of the store after having made our purchase, my husband made the comment that it’s hard to believe that just a few years ago, the idea of walking into a store to buy new furniture never would have crossed our minds. It just wasn’t something in the realm of possibility for us at that point.

Are we completely out of debt? No. We still have some student loans and a mortgage. But the epic amounts of credit card debt and personal loans are gone. It’s all a balancing act of what’s most important to you. We decided to focus on those debts and are ok with paying off the student loans and the mortgage a bit slower because we also want to enjoy life today!

And let me tell you, this new couch (and loveseat set, btw!) are amazingly comfy and were worth the hard work we put in over the last few years. Had we made this purchase a couple of years ago, knowing that it was just going to add more debt to our credit cards, it wouldn’t have felt nearly as good as it does today!

Testing out the new loveseat at the store!
