ABOUT THE ELEPHANT

It started with the word ‘exuberance’

As I began the journey of branding my business, part of my process was to interview past clients.

The words that came from one of those interviews ended up inspiring my entire brand.

“Lindsey’s exuberance about it [coaching]
made me want to learn.
Maybe this could be an adventure.”

— TG, Carlisle, PA

That word — ‘exuberance’ — took me back to my graphic design days in college.

When I was in college studying graphic design, one of my assignments was to create a brand, complete with a name and logo.

The company I came up with was ‘The Exuberant Elephant’, a clothing store for toddlers.

After reading the quote from my client, it triggered the memory of that brand and I thought: ‘that would be fun and random because I’m fun and random! But is that really a good brand for a financial coach?’

And then I thought some more.

And started researching the symbolism between elephants and money. After learning more, I felt that it aligned perfectly with the brand I was trying to create.

Elephant Symbolism

Strength

  • The sheer size of an elephant demonstrates its potential strength.

  • Money can also be a symbol of strength in our society. Whether that strength is positive or negative, it can be a very powerful tool in many ways.

  • In Buddhism, an elephant can symbolize mental strength.

Wisdom & Loyalty

  • Elephants are loyal and intelligent creatures. They are often called ‘gentle giants’ who care for their herd — just as we care for our families. I work mostly with women who are caretakers of their children and families, and oftentimes, their parents as well.

  • Being a family caretaker requires responsibility, determination and loyalty, as does responsible money management.

Patience

  • Elephants are known as calm and patient animals — two qualities needed for money management as well.

  • An elephant can also be thought of as a spirit guide on a journey that requires patience.

Good Luck & Fortune

  • Many cultures believe elephant symbolism around the house will invite good luck and fortune, while keeping out negativity.

  • A positive mindset is one of the elements we work on in coaching — keeping out the negativity, and allowing flows of positivity.

Power

  • Because of their large size, elephants could cause a lot of physical damage. It is not in their nature to be destructive, however.

  • I believe that money, or lack thereof, is not meant to be destructive, yet it can have such powerful destructive forces, if allowed.

Intelligent & Playful

  • Elephants are very smart and playful creatures.

  • With the right mindset, money can allow humans to be wise with their spending and allow opportunities to explore and play along the way.

And finally — money is often called ‘the elephant in the room’!

Be like an elephant: Remember what matters, look out for your herd, and don’t be afraid to take up space.
