1: How to Stay Motivated on Your Financial Journey

Hello and welcome to the very first episode of The Money Clarity Podcast! Thank you so much for joining me on this adventure. I can’t wait to help you make some powerful money shifts so that you can live your best life and use money as a tool to help you get there!

I’m your host, Lindsey Ciarrocca and to kick things off, today I’m sharing with you a simple, yet powerful exercise that I do with all of my clients, before we ever start to look at any numbers.

If you've been on a financial journey for a while, you know that sometimes it can feel like you're attempting to scale Mt Everest. There are days you just want to throw in the towel and quit. Or, maybe you're just starting out and the whole thing feels completely overwhelming. Where do you even start?

Today I’m sharing with you a simple, yet powerful exercise that I do with all of my clients, before we ever even start to look at any numbers.

Let me ask you a question.

What's your "financial why?"

Your why should be something short but powerful. This should resonate with you so deeply with you that it almost feels like a punch in the gut, it’s that powerful. It’s something that you could write on a Post-it Note, put somewhere that you’ll see it every single day and be reminded of why you chose to work on your relationship with money. It should be something that will keep moving forward when things get hard and you feel like quitting, because they will. But the life that’s possible on the other side of that discomfort? Totally worth it.

Close your eyes and think about some of these questions:

  • Why do you want to be in a better place financially?

  • Why did you decide now was the time to start working on your relationship with money?

  • What makes you excited to work toward a better financial future?

  • What would a better financial future mean for you, your kids, or even your grandkids?

Maybe it's the freedom from financial stress, not having to lay awake at night worrying about money.

Or maybe it’s the ability to save for your goals so you can finally own a home or take that dream vacation or put your kids through college.

Or perhaps it's the peace of mind that comes from being in control of your money and knowing you have enough to cover all of your expenses.

Don't be afraid to dig a little deeper.

Your why has to be stronger than your desire to stay in your comfort zone. While your comfort zone is safe, nothing changes there. This money journey is all about empowering yourself to take control of your finances so that you can get to a better place.

I encourage you to take some time to journal and explore your "why." Let it sit for a day or two. Then come back to what you wrote. Is there a theme? Does anything stand out? Drill down, ask yourself why a few more times.

  • Why is it important to pay off debt?

  • Why is it important that you’re able to help your kids pay for college?

  • Keep going until you find that concise, powerful statement that truly resonates with you.

Once you have it, write it on a sticky note and put it somewhere you'll see it every day. Maybe that’s your computer or on the bathroom mirror so you see it first thing every morning. You could also add a reminder that pops up on your phone throughout the day. Or go ahead and take a photo of that Post-it note and make it the background on your phone. All of these little reminders are the secret weapon that will propel you to keep moving forward when you feel like quitting.

This "why" is the foundation for everything you do with your money. It's what allows you to confidently tell your money where to go, without the guilt or the stress. It’s what helps you prioritize what's worth spending on and what's not. Knowing your "why" gives you permission to say no to things that don’t align with what will help move you closer toward your why. So go find it, write it down, and let it be the anchor that keeps you focused on your biggest, wildest dreams.

Remember, Your biggest, wildest dreams are within reach. Let’s make some money moves so that you too can start to experience financial freedom.
